When is the best time of the year to move established Rose bushes? I have 2 that have grown close to each other. 1 is Red and the other is Yellow. Needless to say, the yellow closest to the red has red highlight on the outside petals and some of the red get yellow petals. I want to seperate them and possibly turn the other one. Thanks.
The problem is not incestuous rose bushes but rather one related to the birds and bees - Mendelian genetics. Banishing them to separate beds will not solve the color issue.
We are pruning them back, but the way that a couple of branches have grown towards each other is what is causing the issue. We got them on a family trip to Texas a few years back and were unsure of how they were going to grow. All I want to do is move one about 3' away from where it is right now and turn the other one so the branches look better.
My grandmother had tons of roses while I was growing up. I remember her pruning them way down every fall and wrapping them in burlap. If she had to move one, she waited until the spring, just as the leaf buds and new branchs started to come in. Then again, we live in New England, and the winters are pretty harsh. I'm not sure, but it probably doesn't make a difference if your in all year warm climate.
