Install time on wiring/amps
Trying to budget time on installing my two amps. This will be my first attempt to remove some interior pieces and install wiring for my amps.
How long would it take an average guy to hook up the power wire, run to interior, remove seats, etc, and install the amps. I have a 2002 f250 ext cab. Dont know exactly where im going to mount the amps, I dont know if they will fit underneath the seats.
How many hours should this take approximately

If you have all the tools it should only take you about 2 hours if you are an average guy. Plan out how your gonna run your wires and stick to your plan. Are you hooking the amps up to an aftermarket Head unit or the factory one. Do you have RCA outputs if it's aftermarket? Do you have line level converters if it's factory. These are all factors that need to be considered. I just hooked up a complete system in a friend of mines truck. Removed all factory components, including speakers. I installed and Eclipse HU, with JL audio 5x7 in the front doors, and Infinity Kappas in the rear doors. I installed an amplified 8" Bazooka tube under his back seat. Total time for me was 1 hr 15 min.
You don't need to remove the seats to run your wires. Run your RCA's down one side and your power down the other. The only thing you'll have to remove is the sill plates and kick panels. And depending on where you put your amp, maybe the trim in the rear of the truck. I use a fish tape to get the wires from the raceway under the sill panels to the center of the truck. If you don't have a fish tape, then a wire coat hanger works great. This will cut down greatly on your install time. Make sure you use a good quality RCA cable and run heavy enough wire for your constant power with an inline fuse directly to the battery. Run the same gauge wire for ground as you did for power. Solder all your connections so they don't rattle apart and insulate them well.
I just got my truck put back together. I took all panels off of the walls to put deadner on. I took the carpet out and cleaned it with the hose. With the seats and everything removed it was really easy to get the wiring and amps installed. This was a first install for me and I took my time and had fun doing it.Everything went back in better than expected. If Ihad done this nonstop, it would have taken me two whole days.Doing a little here and there it took about a week.
I would expect it to take a couple of hours since it is your first time. Hope all goes well, but make sure you take your time, as you do not want to be troubleshooting later..

I would like to place the amps under the seats as with my extended cab. I sometimes place items on the floor behind the seats. What sucks is that all of my tools are in storage and I might have to make trips if I forget something. Im staying at the in-laws and they have no tools. Figured socket set, screwdrivers, etc. Anything odd that might come in handy?
Also I havent taken the positive terminal that came with the amp kit out the the truck battery to check whether or not it has the same inner diameter. Mostly becuase I havent found it with all the stuff I have in boxes. Anyone have issues with this. Thanks !

rachet and socket set, crew drivers, cut pliers, crimper, terminals, (optional) voltage tester or voltimeter, some screws......make sure to have plenty cable so you can adjust around borders with no big deal :-) goodluck pal!
Well i got all of the seats out and all i have left is carpet in there. My amps look like one will fit under the seats and one may not. When I took off the rear extended cab seat back rest it looks like I might be able to put the amps behind there. Will that be to hot for them? My only other option would be to place both amps underneath the extended cab seat for the ease of wiring.
ok i believe amps should be placed in a place where they can get air......they get real hot......with all power they give.....now about where to put them...depends! If you have subs under neath rear sofa..then you prob have no space left like i do to put amps in there....i put one amp one drivers side (door spkrs amp) and other one on passenger's seat (subs amp) and the crossover mounted on sub box on opening in middle.....
