replacing bed, suggestions?

Fella's
The more I start body work on my 54 the more I want to do it right. The current bed Is in stright condition however, has many dings and pits. There's minor rust. Even if I blasted the bed and did some bondo, I don't think it would turn out very well. So! I've been looking for beds online and came up with a few, First is Pro's Pick, any of you used or worked with this product? second, we all know Mid Fifty...Then Vintage ford in Sac. Would you guys suggest a package deal, front sides, brace frames etc? I guess i'd need to do it all new to keep it smooth and clean. Any helpful hints would be great!

I am using an original bed but this issue has been discussed a lot and for the money the Pros-Pick seems to be the ticket, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to give an opinion on that

If money is not the main concern, I would go for Pros-Pick complete package. I have their hidden hinge crossmember and tailgate and I am pleased with the quality. I bought my bed from mid-fifty but I think it is a mark- k product. I,m also very happy with it.

yeah, money is always an issue but I do like the smooth lines of the pros pick. Mid fifty isn't that much cheaper though...Its the shipping that really gets ya! Also, did you guys do much welding when you replaced you bed?

I went with a ProsPick and have received the bed but haven't installed it yet. I bought mine at a show where ProsPick was a vendor. Although there is a $75 crating fee, if you can buy it at a show they will deliver it free. Check with them and find out which shows they are attending. My bed has no welding to be done...

Ditto on my 51 you can see pictures in my gallery. They even gave my free shipping, but if I wasn't in a big hurry I would have investigated purchasing the material and having the 45 bent in it and used a piece of pipe to make the circle part. I have seen a bed on a COE a guy had done that way and it was much stronger that the one I have. I also would have installed a steel bed floor, but that's just hind sight.

I'm no welder either...But may get a buddie to help me out. With the bed off i was thinking of putting in an ajustable 4-link suspension. or mono with rear sway bar. the pors pick seems to be the best route so far!

I'm also beginning to look at them, thet look like the solution if you don't plan to use the truck as a truck.

If you have the money, buy one.. The money spent on a new one is worth it concidering all of the frustration you would have with trying to fix the current one and screwing up, wasting money, starting over, etc.

Thats where I'm at right now.. I don't have the $$ for a new bed.. they don't make them for F-250's anyway.. trying to fix the one I've got and it was completely hacked to death because it was a wrecker, they cut off the back 1.5' of the truck!

This weekend I about freaked out and broke something I was so aggrivated lol..

I just went and bought a new one from Sac Vintage Ford. My body guy was going to charge me a bundle to get the old one in shape. It also came with the weld-in tear drops for the ends. I bolted it together and was very happy with the fitness. Good luck, Jag
