Well, I am struggling with the pricing vs value right now.. Came into some extra money that I will put to the bed.. but which one is the problem..
(complete, bed, wood, tailgate, stock strips) all with approx $300 shipping fee in addition.

Pros Pick - $1800
Mar-k - $1800 - 2 week delivery
Sac Vintage Ford $1750
MidFifty - $1650
Dan Carpenter - $1500 - 2 week delivery
Northern Classic Truck - $1100 - 12 week delivery

So, how do you decide when you can't see any of them.
(alho I could drive to Oklahoma City, and see my grandkids too)

I have to go with a new bed, also. The PO had installed a cut down, later model bed and it's not what I want. I'll probably go with the Northern Classic Truck bed since it's complete and close to home. I have plenty to keep me busy for the 12 weeks while I'm waiting.

And the 12 weeks is abnormal, but they had a death in the company/family and now are backlogged on orders.

I have one of these on order, but just checking to see if there is a better/different decision.

I have the PP bed and it is the finest, bit I just finished a Mar-K ( for a friend) and it is more for the $$ and a very nice bed. The PP price does not include wood and WOW strips. That is extra so the $1800. 00 is not correct or we would all own the PP. Also, order from a dealer or you will pay through the beak for frt..

Thanks...
Note that I said stock strips and wood. But you are right, Bed is 1311, tailgate is 435, Wood is 360 and that doesn't include strips of any kind.

man I wish I had bought one back in 2000 when I bought the truck.

The economics is definitely in favor of a new bed vs repair unless you are a top bodyman or are building a beater. Straightening both sides of a flat panel is some of the toughest body work you can attempt. I don't have a bed to worry about so I can't provide any input on the best one.

Rent or borrow a trailer and come to OKC to save the shipping and crating cost. Let me know when you are in town and I can help you load it up. When I get to the bed stage of my project I plan to use Mar-K. Also we have Classic Auto Parts in OKC that sells a bed but they are higher priced.

I can use my pickup.. the crate will weight about 375 lbs, and I've got 1/2 ton capacity..

My problem is the $475 difference, $675 minus $150 gas(800 miles rt), comparing the delivery included.

$1725+150 vs 1050 +300 = 1875 vs 1350. For that $525 I can buy the tilt hood kit, and a power window kit

1265+460 (bed & tailgate, wood and plain strips) = 1725 (mar-k), 16ga
1050 (bed, tailgate, wood and plain strips) = 1050 (Northern), 14ga

I have the original tailgate, but I don't think I can get it to look as nice as a new one. Has a slight bow, and of course the wear and tear scratches, but no rust.

Now, if someone does a deal at the F100 show next weekend, I'd send money to someone to buy one for me..(delivered of course)..

So, I'd go to $1500 delivered to get a package deal.
Of course I want stainless, no hole strips, and no holes in the wood, and no stake pocket holes. I'll be adding a roll pan on the back too.

I just picked up both sides and the head panel for an F1, '48 vintage from Sac Ford. The pieces are pretty good except for the edges under the flair at the fop of the sides.
When they came out of the brake it looks like they were dropped a little, rounding the edges and the angle of the bend for the flair isn't enough. I'm not sure how to put a little more bend for the entire length of the flair. I'm going to try and put the side panels in a brake but with the raised panel on the sides it makes it hard. I'm going to try and lay something between the edge of the spot to brake and the raised panel. Any suggestions?

I have an option of a Dennis Carpenter bed thru a texas distributor.. I didn't find any references to the bed in a forum search.. (maybe I just don't search well!).. anybody got some info?

I gather Dan is son of Dennis, so one would hope that bed quality would be the same..

I know of a great place online to order a stock 6ft. bed. They sell the beds for 1938-1972 and their price was around 1299.00 for 51 and later. It comes complete with tailgate, wood bed, subframe, strips, well it included everything less the fenders. Their crate is cheeper to, it was only like 50 bucks rather then 75.00. There is some lead time for build, but the price was better and the quality is there.

I have seen the stuff for pro-picks and some other like carpenter and they are poor quality and better for hot rodders then those looking to restore with a stock or near stock look. Most state they sell a complete kit but where is the bed wood or subframe, where is the tailgate??

I got mine for my F-1 at this one place. It was on a truck in 7 weeks and it was just like to stock box when installed.
Let me know if anyone need info. Happy to help!!

I can't say much about Carpenter since I have no experience with them and I don't know what Pros-pick bed you looked at but I have seen many and have yet to see one of poor quality. Yes, they may be better suited for rods with the improved hidden hinge tailgate and no chains to scratch your paint job but the stock tailgate is also available along with the bed wood, polished stainless strips, and the subframe pieces. You can buy a completely stock looking bed from Pros-pick if that's what you're looking for. My bed kit included all of that.

Another thing. Isn't Pro-pick in canada. I ordered something from then and it came from canada. I really didn't like their beds so much. They didn't have much of the orignal tooling I would have expected. I treid some other companies like the one I ended up using and their beds were right on. Guage metal and everything, infact they had a customer take their bed to Deerborn and it got high marks. They had phono's of the guy and the show. That helped me make that choice right there!! Who knows I am just saying that I found another options to pro-picks if you need one!!

happy motoring!!
