Dear FTE members I am working hard to redo my 74 F250 Ranger XLT, and i am looking for a flush mount bed cover, or perhaps ideas on how to build my own. I am also working on posting pics. Any ideas for bed covers (buy the way this site is the greatest) helped me alot already.
I liked the Fold-a-cover but not the price. I built my own version. I will try and post some pics later today. It's a bit heavy and it leaks when it rains but it doesn't look too bad and I can lock it.
Nice job on the cover fp_5! Have you tryed any of the weather strip stuff they have out now to keep the rain out? I have a lund that hings up and like it, but it does not keep my tools safe. I like your idea, if I could keep it dry in side. The store bought ones are to pricey. Erv
Nice job on the cover. Thats kinda what i want but do you think it could go flush in the bed. I have some really nice bed rails and i would like to keep them.
I considered making it flush by installing a support rail or bracket along the inside of the bed. I chose not to because I thought angle iron or bracket might damage any cargo that I put back there. You would also have to put one across the front of the box and some kind of set up for support along the tailgate. It can be done, I just was lazy I guess and didn't want to do the extra work. It would look great though.
Thanks Ervin,I have weather stripping on it and rubber strips covering the hinges but it still leaks. Now that the weather is better I will spend some time trying to sort out the water problems.
I've been looking at a Access soft cover. It has rails that clamp to the inside edge of the bed. The top rolls out and snaps tight at the end and velcros along the sides. Giving a water tight seal, and can be used with flat bed caps or some bed rails. But they run about $450. A couple friends have them and are very pleased - I can't seem to get past the price just yet...
