steering column grinds
The steering column grinds when I make hard turns in my F150 2WD. Also, the steering wheel can be wiggled up and down about 1/16th of an inch or so. Is this a typical problem on older trucks? How do I fix it?

What is the year? Does the truck have power steering?
The upper steering column bearing can be replaced by removing the steering wheel, and loosing the directional switch, the bearing is located on the upper portion of the steering column.

My '73 F100 2wd did this same thing. I ended up replacing the column, because I let it go too long and it ground out the top of the column. But turned out the real cause of the problems was rusted cab mounts. The rusted mounts were collapsing, putting extra pressure on the column. So after replacing the column, I replaced the floor pans and cab mounts - now all is good.
