Hello all, this is my first post. iIve been lurking around for over a year. Usually I can find all of the answers I need, so I never post a question. So here goes...
I have the dreaded blinking OD light. I had the code pulled. P0741. Dealership
wants $88 to tell me what is wrong. One tranny shop said needs new converter
$800, Another said needs complete overhaul. Problem is neither shop even test drove the truck. It shifts thru all gears. It starts blinking after I reach 50 mph.
Please help.
TCC Usually refers to the Tork Converter Control circut. Get it to a chain shop like AAMCO or even Cottmans most of them will do diagnostic for no charge, scan codes and drive truck some will even pull pan & inspect sump. just keep an eye on them thier job is to sell transmissions keep that in mind. And now that Cottmans has bought AAMCO corp there about the same bunch of guys. The Cottman stores have three years to change the name to AAMCO....AHHH that 80% market recognition paid off for something.
I figured is was torque converter something or other. I just couldn't put my finger on what the last C would be for in TCC. It definately sounds like something electrical though. Perhaps the TC lock line has a short in it somewhere?
P0741 means the electrical circuit for the TCC solenoid has an open or a short. It can be in the wiring or it could be a bad solenoid. Someone needs to do an electrical diagnosis to determine where the problem is.
yes you can easily change the solenoid pack out, it is almost the same as changing out the VB. Onlyl difference is you need a #30 torx bit and 10mm socket. A long arm to reach over the tranny crossmember to disconnect the electrical for the solenoid block. I have a few pics in my gallery, feel free to ask any questions. I fyou are doing the VB you minus well do them both as the majority of the work is draining the pan removing it and putting oil back in. Should only take about 10 min for the solenoid pack. If you do it, you can fit your hand between the heat shield and tranny, push down on the connector the same time as gently pulling a wiggle it out. It will be MESSY though, same as the VB, lots of oil in there.
Well I guess this gives me a good reason to make the leap. I called Brian and spoke with him about this work. I'm now going to order a new solenoid pack and a BTS Valve Body from Brian.
BTS - great stuff!! Brian - great guy!! I think you'll be pleased with the performance of the VB, and once the DP chip goes in, which Jody will program for the chip, it'll be even better. Just don't forget to tell Brian that you're getting a DP chip. He'll adjust the VB for the chip.
