While driving down the road the other day; my 2000 F-250 SD just quit. No sputtering, no "check engine" light, no warning, just quit and would not crank back up. After towing it home we realized that we could not hear the fuel pump when the key was turned on. After about three-hours it finally cranked up like nothing ever happened. The next day I went to start it and of course it wouldn't start. Through some reading and research, I ended up changing the camshaft position sensor. It worked for about 24 hours. This morning on my way to work it quit again but restarted after about fifteen minutes. The check engine light has never come on. Does this suggest something other than a sensor/computer problem, like maybe a fuel pump relay??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the "welcome" and thanks for the inputs. I'm not very computer savy (kinda stuck in the old times) so I'll apologize in advance. I will edit my signature so ya'll know what I have. It is a gas engine (5.4l), and I didn't check the fuel press. Not being able to hear the pump; I was thinking along the lines of it not even getting power. The bad thing is now I can't get it to fail so it makes for tough troubleshooting. The new CPS was black. Is there a difference?
