Question 97 Expi will not start

Does any one have any suggestions? My son was driving my 97 Expi, one evening, and the thing just quit!!! The warning chime starting ringing, and all doors locked, upon trying to restart the engine, all it does is cranks, but will not turn over. I asked him if it acted like it was trying to run out of gas, and he said it happened with no warning at all. We had to tow it to a shop, and after a week of being there, he has not located the problem. He said that he has checked the fuel pump, and fuse box. Now he is trying to locate a computer from a salvage yard, just to see if that might be the problem. A co-worker, who is very familiar with aut-mechanics, still believes that it is the fuel pump. I do know that on occasions, when I have applied the brakes to turn into a parking lot, it would act like it was going to quit, or would just plan quit!!! Also, on other occasions, I would get into the vehicle, put the key in the ignition, start the engine, it would quit, and the theft light started flashing. But after starting again, it would act right. I am puzzled and just wondered if anyone would have any ideas or suggestions.

From what you are describing try some or all of these tips, ecm may need to be reflashed to finish the loop in the anti theft area 2nd the boo switch may be begining to get a little lazy or stick (boo = brake on off) make sure wireing is not frayied or damaged to be causing this symptom, if ti was the fuel pump
just observing pressures at the schrader valve will dispell this issue.
Try some of these ideas & keep us posted.

Well my expy is running again. The mechanic installed a new computer. Ran good for a week until this morning.....I was driving to work, then suddenly the check engine light started flashing, and now it is on steady. It sputters when I accelerate, But goes right along. Could this just be plug wires or spark plugs just needing changed. As far as I know these have never been changed, it does have 150K miles and I have put 100K on it myself. Thanks for your help!
