a pain theory

as i sit here at the computer trying to decide if i want to risk getting up to take a 1500 mg vicodine, i had the thought that i would not wish the intense pain i am in rite now from a slipped disc on even my worst enemy, if i had one.
it took me 45 minutes this morning at 3 am to get downstairs, then once in the bathroom, it took me another 10 minutes just to get off the bowl.
i have been sitting at the computer station since 4:00, because i am at a neutral point on the pain scale, and i know if i move anything more than my arms and fingers i will feel the hot knives again.
and the worst thing is that i can't even go to the hospital because the phone is on the other side of the room, so i cant even call for a ride.

sorry for the ranting
getting old is not for wimps.

I think I'd stay put. Do you have a 'station' set up that's all your own? You should get a cooler, lounger, and laptop in front of the TV.

yup. tv is 8 ft away, and the remote is on the computer table now.
i realized after that post that my computer chair is on wheels, so i wheeled over to the other side of the room and got the cordless phone and called for food and drugs.
now that i am fed and on the way to getting whacked out on pain killers , all is well in the universe again.

it still sucks getting old though

Do some research to see if any one close has the DRX 9000 in your area, I had the same problem last year, 3 hours to get to bathroom to go pee after the treatments I can now walk and work. As for cost be sitting down when they tell you, mine was $5,500 but worth every penny here is a link to the mfg you can search your area from their site.

TJC--definitely can identify with your pain. Back surgery in 1984, and many years of off and on pain. Had 2 episodes, one in Feb. 2000, and one in April 2001, where I could literally not get off the floor for 3 days--used a gatorade bottle with a big neck for whizzing, and didn't eat for the duration so I wouldn't have to go to the bathroom. As I correctly predicted, arthritis has started to set in, which means stiffness and some pain and immobility in the knee and hip joints, but it seems to have stiffened up the back area, so not so bad there anymore. You can tell from my sign-in name what I use mainly for medication. This condition definitely runs in my family. You listed about 5 vehicles--how do you manage working on them??

tjc transport, man, you're old (49). Soon to be 1/2 century.

Tell me; did they have electricity back in them days?

I kinda know the pain you're in.

Luckily, I just have to deal with a double siatica; bad knees; bad ankles; gout; incisional hernia; hyper tension; artiritus; upper and lower back pain; and headaches that last for days to weeks. But I'm use to it.

Hang in there. It gets better before it gets worst.

it all goes back to a truck accident in 82 where i broke my neck . i was in traction for a total of 18 months, and it took me 3 years before i could walk by myself without assistance. i can be fine for 6 months, and then turn funny, and be down for 3-4 days.

as far as the working on the 5 listed vehicles, i only do one at a time. those are mine. the company has 20 big trucks. i don't do to much on the big trucks anymore, i can't handle it. that is what the 20 year old wrench pullers are for.
i just give advice when they get stumped now.

they told me my chances of walking again were like 15%, but i was, and still am a stubborn sob, and i told the doc he was full of poop, and i was gonna come back there and kick him in the butt one day. unfortunately, the pain led to drinking as a pain killer, and i was drunk just long enough to loose everything before i saw the light 10 years ago. now that i no longer drink, sometimes the pain bothers me.

and ben, i notice you are already a member of the over the hill club, so i will not say anymore.

tjc transport, I believe that's a typo error.

Good for you on your determination.
