This is also exasperated by the slow "break in" process.. the full 300+ ponies don't make their presence known for a few thousand miles....
You know, I really thought this was all BS as I had been reading it over the last year or so.
Man was I wrong. I drove a 99 CC/LB V-10 for a couple of year, then switched to an
Excursion V-10, now back to an 06 F250 CC/LB V-10. When I first got the 06, it had 97 miles on the clock.
I was second guessing myself because it felt slower than my 99, even though the 06 has the 4.10's
where the 99 had the 3.73's. As I am coming up on 5K miles and 200 hours on the truck, all I can say is
lookout... it seems every time I drive it, it has more power than the last time. Gas mileage is also creeping up,
I averaged 9 rural driving initially, now it's averaging a hair over 10. My 99 averaged 7 pulling my
24' enclosed trailer. The first trip out with the 06, I averaged 8.5, so it's definately an improvement.
With the torqueshift, the 06 also doesn't hunt for gears anywhere near
as much as the 99 did and it holds overdrive a lot more.
So I guess which ever truck happens to make it in my garage money will be spent, before and after the purchase. Being in socal, all the pros and cons of both engines don't mean much and I understand that. My area and usage puts a kink in the arguments. With that, thanks for the replies. Wish me luck. Blue
