TALKED TO THE GUYS @ DIAMOND DIESEL IN RENO, NV ABOUT 500+ HP UPGRADES FOR MY 7.3 SD, THEY SUGGESTED NEW CONNECTING RODS IF UP OVER 500 HP. SAID THEY JUST BUILT ONE OVER 550 HP AND THE STOCK RODS LET GO AFTER ABOUT A MONTH. HAVE FUN & GOOD LUCK
At some point, the 7.3 went from forged rods to powdered metal rods.
See the 7.3 forum's tech notes for more info, I believe it's in there. Specifically, which engine # was the cutoff.
yep that is a big discussion over on my home-board. the original thought date when forged were no more and PMR's started being put in was 10.16.2000 engine build date. however one guy checked his and his production date was september something (early in the month) and he had PMR's. so all 2000 model year trucks have forged (for sure) and all factory 2002 MY trucks have PMR's for sure. it is the MY2001 that is debateable. early are forged, later are PMR. PMR's are good to about 400 RWHP with custom tuned programming taking consideration of the rods. and keeping it below 3400 rpm. overrevving is a killer of PMRs on a modded engine.
edit, only read the second page for the post above: yes i have a complete set of Forged rods in a box on the shelf. going to be Cryoed and balanced if i even use them at all. depends on if im just mildly building it, or going for the most HP out there. i may end up going with Cunningham or Crower billet rods. no way am i going near 400RWHP with my PMR's. dont want a convenient porthole.

I purchased a set of Fabtech's traction bar for my '05, and was severely disappointed when I went to install them, due only to fitment issues. I don't know whether or not you have any kinds of steps installed on your truck (don't remember from your pics), but I have the AMP Research steps (electric steps, btw) and where the bracket that holds the step when extended, is folded up underneath the truck, it is in the way of the above mentioned bars. Due to the swivel shackle that is bolted on the OUTside of the framerails. I don't know if the bracketry on the old fashioned "hoop steps" would be in the way or not.
Overall, FT's bars are AWESOME, beefy to no extreme.... but w/ some research from 4WPW.com, I found that Superlift bars SHOULD fit (hopefully). In transit as I type this. They mount directly in line w/ framerails, and should not impede on any kind of step(s) at all!
P.S.~~ With that 4.5" of lift you're going w/, you MAY not have this same issue, but I thought that I'd give a heads up to this issue anyways. GL w/ the outcome.
For me that kind of sucks because my fabtech traction bars are on the way. Should be in by the end of next week and I was planning to get those electric steps. Do you think that the bracket for the steps could be modified in some way? I'm a welder and could probably modify the bracket somehow, if there is a way.Big ride, Could you post some pictures of your truck with those steps and the superlift traction bars? It must look pretty sweet. I'm still gonna keep my FT traction bars I think they look pretty BA. Was going to build my own bars but my time is more precious to spend with my family than to mess with making the bars.
