67 4 Way Flashers
Years ago I owned a 67 F 100 Custom. This truck had the 4 way flasher switch mounted in the glove box. I thought it was a modification by one of the previous owners. Several people told me it couldn't have been original. I never was sure and could not find a good source to varify either way. It was just recently I saw another 67 with the switch in the glove box. Did they all come equipped this way? Or was this a dealer installed option? Dealer kit? I felt it was kinda strange to put the switch out of the drivers reach. Was 68 this way also? Any previous years 65-66?
Thanks Harold
pre-67 trucks that were equipped with a 4-way had the switch on the dash. 67...in the glove box until I think '70 which went back on the dash. Go figure.

I agree that they were still in the glove box through 69 and definately not optional after 66, either.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts

My 68 F-100 is located in the glove box...for what it is worth the 1968 shop manual volume 3 says:
"On F-100 through F350 trucks...the emergency warning switch is mounted in the glove compartment with the emergency warning flasher unit mounted on the front of the steering column support bracket except on F-250 and F-350 cowl chassis units"

I'm wondering if the different location has something to do with whether or not the truck was equipped with A/C. My truck is a factory A/C truck, and both of the pictures in which the underdash toggle switch is visible in the brochure also show a factory air unit. We all know that factory A/C in these trucks resulted in different glove boxes (A/C trucks have very shallow glove boxes with an auxiliary box located in the A/C unit itself).
Also, when I first bought the truck, neither the turn signals nor the hazards were functional. I replaced the turn signal switch with a NOS stock unit, which fixed them. The hazard switch was disconnected and missing its internals, and I couldn't find a NOS one. My father in law, who restores old 'stangs, alerted me to the fact that there was a reproduction emergency flasher toggle switch that looked identical to mine in one of his Mustang catalogs. I ordered it, and it was indeed identical except for the position of the mounting holes on the black metal mounting bracket. It had a "C7" part number, as I recall. I just moved the toggle switch to my existing mounting bracket, and connected everything up. My emergency flashers now work fine.
I'll check for the part number on that switch when I get home. There is no doubt in my mind, however, that at least some '69 Ford pickups came from the factory with the emergency flasher switch mounted to the underside of the dash and to the right of the column.
Good sleuthing and nice follow-up. This is turning out to be very interesting. Perhaps the answer might turn out to be that the placement changed during a "mid-year transition". I look forward to more facts.

Karlsd, thanks for the tip on the ‘Stang toggle, I thought they looked the same.

In looking at the brochure last night, I also noticed the nifty "behind the seat storage box" that was only available with the "25 gallon frame mounted fuel tank." Has anyone ever actually seen one of these? I've seen 67-69 trucks with auxiliary tanks to go along with the in-cab tank, but none that had a frame tank and no in-cab tank, and I've never seen one of the behind-the-seat storage boxes.
The brochure also shows bucket seats as being an option, and I don't think I've ever actually seen those.
