brand new member here. Been on before but I had never signed up, just browsed the forums. I have a 1993 ranger 5spd with the 4 cyl. I have over 180,000 miles on it. I really love my truck, its been good to me. The only major thing I have done to it is replace the clutch at 80,000. Anyways I was filling up the other day at the gas station and right at the end I got a little gas spillage from underneath the truck. It seems like it came from the tank right where the fill tube meets it. Now I keep smelling gas. Its not leaking that I can see but it does seem to be coming out in very small amounts. My ?? is how hard is it to drop the tank and if anyone has done it about how much did a new tank run you? I would greatly appreciate any responses. Thanks in advance

p.s. the tanks on these trucks are easy to drop as long as your tank is empty. id guess it might be comming from the junction of the filler tube and the tank. pull here down some sat and check it out. mabey youll get lucky and it just be a loose hose
Welcome to the forum. I can offer no help because I have never replaced a Ranger tank, but I'm sure someone will help out. I do know that J.C. Whitney has replacement tanks in their catalog. Good luck,
Dono
The hose leading from the fill cap to the tank is prone to breaking down and leaking. Replacing it seems simple, but is a real PITA. It's actually easier to remove the bed than to drop the tank, as ridiculous as that sounds. Once you get the bed removed (which requires you to loosen the upper end of the hose), you have free access to everything in the rear end (quite strange to look down at it all really...).
My buddy had the same problem with his 91 pulled the bed off in about half an hour the filler neck had cracks in it right at the tank. Kinda expensive if I remember but fixed the problem

Thank you guy's for your replies. I havent done anything yet. I'm waiting for Sat. I'm pretty sure it is the fill tube because it only leaks when the tank is full or near it. I will let you know what it is after I fix it.
I had to do some work on my fuel pump and I found it a lot easier like everyone else to pull the bed off. Be sure to take the chance this week (before Saturday) to spray some WD-40 or penetrating oil on the bed bolts. Those suckers can be a pain to get out.
And you can always find help here, even if you are a Braves fan. Let's go Mets! Welcome to FTE.
