Steering box Id and rebuild vs replace
My steering box is leaking and the auto parts store lists a ford and a bendix. How can I tell which one I have. Also, if I get lucky and it is a ford box, I can get the seal kit. How easy/hard is it to replace the seals. Should I just replace the whole box and be done with it? 69 Ranger (f100) w/power steering.

If the top cover has four bolts, it is a Bendix box, and they are prone to leaking. If it has two bolts, it is a Ford/Saginaw box, much preferred, but not directly interchangable. To use the Ford box where a Bendix was, you need a different steering column, and may have to modify the driver's side motor mount.
