Hey guys, ive got a complete stock stereo in my 2003 Expy EB, I love the truck, have had it for a couple of months. After I decide on the HU, speakers, Amp, sub I want,,, should I have all of that installed? I feel like I can handle installing the system components, but No clue about the wiring and power sources, etc. Around how much would it cost me to get all that installed?
thanks guys, I read the forums about an hour or two a day at work, cant get enough knowledge.
Well I say you can install it all yourself. When hooking up HU and the full range speakers, it's really simple, if you order from Crutchfield, they even include all of the wiring harnesses and such so you don't have to cut any wires.
Now about an amp, that's a little bit more difficult, but basically it's pretty easy. It just takes some time and patience. You have to run the wires (positive and RCA cables, though RCA cables should be on the oposite side of the vehicle) through the firewall to the back running it under the carpet and behind panels. Not too dificult but time consuming mostly.
Placement of the amps decides on what you want to do. You can run them in the back on an amp rack, you might be able to install them under your seats in the Expy, I don't know how the seats are set up. Or you could go to JL Audio and get a powered stealthbox for your Expy and that way you don't have to worry about creating amp rack and hiding your box. The JL Audio stealthbox sounds pretty good too, but it won't be so loud everyone in the neighborhood hears it.
