Hey guys,
I have a wierd probem. First started with a miss after a good rain. SES light came on. Read a cyl #5 misfire. I replaced the COP and plug. Cleared the code. Still misses and now on top of missing, it quits when I shift into gear or stopped. I have to feather the throttle to get it to run again. No new codes. Should I replace all the plugs and the IAC valve? Oh the truck has 135,000 miles and the plugs were replaced around 90,000. Thanks!
Well I changed all the plugs. Boy is that fun! Still misses, but it doesn't stall now. Anyone have any ideas. No new codes. Maybe something will show up soon.
un plug the iac connector. it will set a code but the engine will run at a default setting. try that. as well it seems that the first cop code usually isnt the only one giving the problem. try a new cop one cyl 1, no change re-install originol cop and move to cyl 3, then 5, etc. if you dont find a bad cop then you will have a spare and you will know that all yours are good. i know it doesn't sound right to do this but it can work and its still cheaper than a garage throwing parts at the truck that it may not need.
how long should it take for it to throw back the service engine soon code into dash? because i cleared my code took half day for it to come back...imagine changing each coil and waiting for freaking code after clearing to come back....wut u guys think?
ya it can take a while. but don't wait for the code to come up drive truck and see if there is a difference.
fordguy4life- how did you get to number three? did it through a code or did you try and replace them. its great either way that you found it.
Process of eliminatioin, really....Thanks for the help! I'm really starting to dislike the 'COP' design, though. Soon I'll have all new COPs. Think I only have 3 originals left. Wish I had a spare $500...I would have replaced them all at once.
