In a word ..........AWESOME I am in Edmonton Alberta and I was up in Athabaska last week. I am just under 21000 pounds and 13 feet high and high winds and steep grades don't fizz this V10. She loves it. The Torqueshift is incredible and I pull the highest revs going downhill, up to 4500 RPM going down 8 % grades and I rarely need to brake. When I do , the built in brake control is
fantastic. Mileage has not been great, around 7.5 average but the guys I talk to with this same set up in a 6.0 barely make 10.
My 460 got 6 with a rig 8000 pounds lighter and did not have near the power this beast does. I drive with the traffic or faster so I am not complaining.
I am a WIFI notebook newbie so I will keep this short. I will be on the road another 5 weeks or so and when I get WIFI I will post. Take care, Don.
wrench, awesome post man. glad to hear youre having a good time with the big 10. boy i would like to get up in that part of the country soon. pretty, isnt it? good luck. matt
One of the reasons I'd trade-in the '01 was for the integrated brake controller and TS.
If I'd ever really use it
The 3-valve on the other hand...
Oh well, unless I do well in business in the next year or two, that ain't gonna happen ... especially when I have to get a new Mustang for the wife first...

I'm with you Don. The V10 with TS and Tow Command make an awesome towing combination. I'm about 18000 pounds and I typically get right at 8 mpg when towing. Mine is still young at 108 hours.
Have you seen the latest Trailer Life Magazine? They have a F450 with a 6.0 psd pulling a 10000 pound trailer. Towing they got 8.8 mpg and 12.3 solo. Of course the axle ration is 4.88:1.
Wrench that is beautiful country up there!
I was up there about 10 yrs ago on a long summer vacation. In my class c motorhome.
towing my 87 broncoII.
Nice to know the v-10 is doing its job.
Rich
Rob,I will post some pics when I get home as I don't have the software with me to connect my camera to my new notebook.
I will be spending a week in Jasper before I make my way west to my next job.
I am taking 3 weeks off between jobs to enjoy my new Fiver and my V10 powered Ford.
Last week, I was towing into a headwind so strong, the grass was
laying flat in my direction. The only way I knew I was towing hard was the tach was reading 3000 RPM instead of 2000 RPM. The speed limit was 110 KL per hour and that is what I was doing (65MPH)
My brother has an 05 Cummins with a much smaller Fiver and his truck would not stay in OD in that wind so the V10 is one powerful engine.
So I say to the "Men of the V10"............Take care and enjoy that incredible engine.
We truly are a rare breed and in this campground of 300 that is about 2/3 full I have seen only one other V10, an F550 with a large commercial canopy on the back.
It feels good to have a reliable workhorse under the hood of my pickup and I will never understand how the 6.0 outsells this incredible engine.
Good post WT. I can just about hear the gloating in your voice!
I have read a few negative posts about people not liking the sound of the 6.8l revving. I don't know where they are coming from. That motor is nearly silent below 3 grand and sounds beautiful above that!!!
I received my Draw-Tite fifth wheel hitch yesterday. Came in three boxes, delivered via UPS. Heavy buggers! Total weight of over 150 lbs. Will get a local garage to install it next week. I have about four to six weeks to go before I hope to post a fiver towing report as positive as yours!
Michael, I totally agree with you on the sound of the V10 and even at 4500 RPM holding me back in tow/haul that is one sweet sound. Best of luck with your new Fiver.
I have always installed my own fiver hitches so make sure the place you use has done a few . My Hi-jacker took 6 holes on each frame rail and the one side you can hit your fuel tank if you are not careful so I slid a piece if metal in there to prevent the drill bit from hitting the tank. I also had to buy one new bracket to miss the shock absorber bracket that is different in 05 because of the staggered shocks. Other than that it is an easy straight forward job. Take care, Don
thanks for all the good words don
as you have said these motors can pull like no tomorrow and i agree. never a roblem towing to the race track with the nova or camaro on the toy hauler
Got asked to pick up a trailer for my local mtb club tomorrow morning. It weighs around 5500 lbs and has electric brakes. I have right at 480 miles on the truck right now and the haul is about 18 miles each way, rolling hills.
Heck, I have to admit that I am really looking forward to this! I would not want to pull my 11K fiver at this mileage, but this little trailer shouldn't be an issue!
PLUS my truck will get to sit front stage for four hours tomorrow during this event! Think I will walk outside right now and get it nice and spit-shined!
Thats impresive, I was happy to get 8.2 on a 1200 mi. trip to NC From Oh on I-77 round trip hauling a 7grnd TT on 5% grades. It does suck that I can only get 10.5 empty though.
