V10 Towing report
Notice the damned near perfect weight distribution in this picture
The truck is very level and the 1.5 to 2.25 lowering of the rear
by the pin weight levels out the truck just exactly as the
engineers designed it. In fact this is the optimum ride stance
that is deliberately engineered in and when running empty the
truck sits nose low. When folks add "leveling kits, they upset this balance
I am not against leveling kits...just want to point out that when you
add the lift to the front and later put the weight in the rear
now you are pushing down the road NOSE HIGH. This can have
adverse effects on headlight aim and steering loading.
Great picture Don. Makes me want to hook up and head for the
Mountains.... no rain in a while, none coming soon, and we are
tired of the 102Degree F temps these days
Excellent report, awsome TV and Fiver. We've made it up to Gods country twice in the past 5yrs. We did a lot of tent camping, and traveled in a Ford Windstar. Next time around it'll be in our new TV and '05 Fleetwood Niagara. Can't wait to get up there again. We head out to VA Beach VA tonight with the pop up for 3 days of R&R.
Excellent photo of your rig against the mountain back drop. The only time I saw mountain goats was when we were in Alaska last year. Have fun mate, keep us posted.

fuel tool box and the hitch weight and cab passengers put my GVW at 11080 .
Fred, the Montanas reaching pin box does look like the centre of the hitch is aft of the axle but it is really just ahead of the axle's centre, just where it should be.
The unit is 50 feet long and handles like a dream. I prefer the ride and steering with the Fiver on tow and now the new tighter turning makes the unit real easy to back in tight spots. Yesterday I hooked up my utility trailer to take a load to the dump and that little thing was a devil to back up after being used to the Fiver.
The picture is taken near the east entrance to Jasper National Park. We saw a big white Ram, many many elk, 5 black bears, and a young cow moose trotting down the road as well as white tail and Muley deer. The quiet V10 and my Vipor remote start are a sweet combination and when we pulled into a rest area, I would do all my checks on both slides , start the V10 by remote, and hit the slide button. The electric motor that runs the hydraulic pump for the slides pulls a bit of juice so being able to start the truck from inside the Fiver is real slick. I don't want to sound like a bragger but both my truck and Fiver were outstanding on this trip and when you spend this much money on something and it lives up to your expectations, it is a nice feeling. I car pooled with my brother and he has an 05 Dodge Cummins. It is a nice truck but I like the Ford SDs much better and I am very glad that I did not go over to Dodge. I was real close and if I had not found this website, I might have been Dodging instead of Super doing with my V10.
10 burning 4 turning right on.

while you where enjoying the country did you have to tell the animals them go east wild thing.

darn good report about how well this gas motor does the same work as a diesel with out the noise and smell. esp. in those mountains .
Just like one did last year, asking me about gas milage, so I told him the truth. Over all avg 12.5, hwy @15+ towing 7-9.
Then he tells me how his CC smoker with a topper and 28ft TT with a slide gets 13 towing.
Yup just give em the grin and move on...
Just yesterday in the mail I get a letter from Ford saying I can buy a new 06 F350 with
only 1.9 % financing and because my present Ford loan is 3.9 % , I can get this new truck with lower payments and have a new truck with full warranty.
My truck will be paid for in 2 years and I am keeping this thing as long as I can. I have kept my two previous cars both bought new for 13 years and 16 years and the 02 Honda we have now is almost 5 years old and I hope we get another 10 years out of it. My 05 F350 V10 does everything I want it to. It is the only new truck I have ever owned that held my respect this high and remember I have bought a new 75, 80, 81, 88, 95, 00, 04 Ford truck. The last one I liked this much was my 81 and you can see by the dates I kept that one 8 years. It was a 400 gas, decent power and good on fuel. The 88 460 was a real let down, 4 MPG with a small Fiver. When I got the 95 diesel 7.3 PSD, my towing mileage almost tripled and I started using the now overused
saying, " I will never own another gas powered pickup. " I was wrong and this is one time it feels so good to be wrong. Later, Wrench.
