My 87 gets roughly 18 on avervage on the highway, and i have a 4 speed.I have thought about swapping the rears to 3.08's.I think i can get away with it since i have the granny gear to get me going.....
My old 89 F150 King cab with a 5 speed and 3.08 gears got 17 mpg on the highway. My 87 Bronco 4wd with a C6 and 3.55 gears gets 15 mpg if I stay under 60 mph. Both mileages are what they were EPA rated to get on the highway when new.
My 92 F150 4x4 gets around 15MPG towing a 3500LBS car trailer in steady state 60MPH making 150 mile runs. Stock size Kuhmos with a hard Fiberglass cover.
Best I ever done was 19 on the highway and 16 city. And that's with a very very very light foot. That didn't last long. I did it out of curiousity but 9/10, I'm always in too much of a hurry. With how I normally drive and box and tools in the back, 14ish city and 16ish highway. That's not racing stoplight to stoplight, but everyone isn't going around me because I'm taking off to slow from a light. And it also means about 70-80 highway.....well...... mostly 75-80.
I agree with 4.9inline6, I too would be jumping on those 4.10's with the quickness with those mileages.
i do not believe that you have 4.10 gears if that is the mileage you claim to get.
lol yea i just noticed that ok fine its 3.08.. My brain was wondering when I wrote it I guess. When my EGR is behaving I get 20 on the highway.. had to note that, some days its acting up and i'm getting 16-19. I've never looked at my in town mpg because i'm afraid of it, all i know is that i put 20 bux or so a day in it.
