Man, you've got it bad! I can't say much, cause it's kinda like Lays chips (You can't just eat {Insert Chevy here} just one. Go for it, and keep us posted.
Thanks for the info by the way. I appreciate it. One more time please...Can someone give me the post that has all the abbreviations cause I get lost sometimes.
Tnduke,
Call Jody at DP Tuner and talk with him. He is a great guy to talk to and will give you an honest answer to all of your questions. You will need a larger exhaust and guages to monitor the EGT's. He said I will get better gas mileage with his 80HP econo tune (which actually dyno'd at 105HP he told me) but like Aklim said, the temptation will be there now and right foot will become a addict!!!
I doubt he will like you to chip your ride without gauges. Like I said, I picked up 4 psi boost and that means more fuel which means more heat. You DON'T want to burn up your motor. He limited me to a 60HP Tow tune because he felt it would get too hot with my setup.
Best talk to Jody first and see what he tells you to do for your setup. Whatever happens you need gauges. If nothing else, you must have a pyro.
Well I don't have a DP chip, mine is a bully dog, but the results are similar. Was towing the trailer home this weekend, for grins and because I was bored, switched it to the stock setting. It pulled great in stock for the 30 or 40 seconds it was there. I was at 50 mph or so when I switched it to the first tow mode, 50hp increase, it just took off. Unbelievable the amount of difference with it. Anyone consider a chip or upgrade should really look into either a DP tuner chip(recomended) or a Bully dog(couldn't pass the deal). I really only use 3 positions on the bully dog: High Idle, 50 tow, and 75 perf. The stock valet and 100 just don't see much use. The DP chip you can custom order the programs you are going to use. i.e. save money.
How did u make out with the issue u had on your new DP chip? Did he back-off on the timing?
Nut
yea nut i sent it back and the rpm i was getting the pinging noise was only 1 degree over stock so he took that out but i still had the noise and less power and higher egts so i sent it back and he put it the way it was and i just drive it now im assumiong its just the injector noise, he added the 20hp tow and its awesome for everday driving so ill try it next time i tow and see if the noise is there.
So I'm about to join the JT bandwagon this weekend...
Lucky for me I grew up in Asheville and get to meet the man himself on monday So, while you guys are talking about tow tunes... what is the tune for the best "around town" economy. I know its all in your right foot, but I tend to have a heavy one so do you think the 20hp tow would be best or the 40? I don't plan on towing THAT much but will be occasionally taking a big **** 4Runner up into the mountains so I will need a tune that will keep things cool with a heavy load and up inclines for extended periods of time. Right now I'm planning on getting 4 positions. Stock, 40 Tow, 80 Econ and 120 Race. Do you think I should get the 20hp tow or maybe ditch the stock for the 20hp tow exchange the 40hp tow for the 60 for the flat land? Which I will be doing a fair amount of as well.
Oh,
and I emailed him yesterday and also have called him today but the message said they "frequently leave the office on friday" so I'm just waiting to hear back.
i have stock-20-40-60-80 i cant believe the power in the 20 mode i really like it, motor sounds great egts way low booste stays down pretty good and its fun around town.
I run around most of the time on the 80 setting, but I tend to be a little HP hungry, so it gets flipped over to the 100 setting on occasion. The shifts in the tow tunes are little firmer. Oh, and my restults from the dyno last weeken showed only a very, very minor difference between the 100 and the 120 tune. The 120 tune only made 2 more HP, and actually made 10 lbft less torque. So, if you've got stock injectors and a stock HPOP, you might consider getting just the 100 setting. It'll have a little less smoke, and lower EGTs. But, talk it over with Jody to be sure.
My suggested tunes for you: stock, 40 tow, 80 econ, and the 100HP tune. If you went with the 6 position, you could add a high idle and whatever your other preference may be.
Just talk with Jody and he will let you know what to get. I am planning on the stock (for warming up) 40 tow, 80 econo and 120. He told me the 80 econo dyno'd at 105hp so just go for the 120 if you want a "fun" tuen for showing off once and a while, but once again just talk with him and he will tell you.
