i'm getting a lot of air comming in the vent windows. both sides have a piece of cardboard shoved under the handle to help keep them colsed. the rubber looks to be in good shape and looks like very little wear on the handles. so i'm wondering which one do i replace or is there something else i can do?
I have a 70 w/ some type of devide that prevents vent window wind noise. It basically clips over the vent window and has threaded stud attached to it and a plastic ****. In between the **** and the device is a small rectangler shaped piece of metal w/ a slot in it. By sliding this piece of metal over the piece that separates both windows(passenger and vent) and tightening the **** it creates a tighter seal. Don't know what you call them but I am sure you could get them at a good auto parts store.
1. Clean the window and the seal well with rubbing alcohol.
2. Apply a thin film of petrolium jelly to the glass on the edges of both sides that make contact with the glass.
3. Apply a healthy bead of black silicone RTV to the seals.
4. Close the window DO NOT LATCH IT, however get it close to the position where it could be latched.
5. Using a clean rag and rubbing alocohol, wipe the excess RTV from the seams.
This will allow the RTV to make contact with the glass in all areas, but allow you to open the windows when the RTV is cured. Because you have not latched the windows, you have given yourself the ability to compress your new seal.
6. Clean the windows and close and latch at will, NO MORE LEAKAGE!!
