Hello everyone! I'm a newbie to this site but I've previewed it for a while. Anyway, I recently purchased an '04 F350 SD w/ a V10 and an auto tranny. The problem I'm noticing is a screech/whine coming from the power steering pump. It only makes the noise in the first 360 degrees of the steering wheel and then it goes away. It will do it either sitting still or while moving. There is no play in the wheel nor is there any resistance. The reservoir is full when I checked it cold. The seling Ford dealer said it was just a little noisey and that they all did it. I've been around Ford trucks all my life and I've never heard one this loud. Am I just picky or is there a problem? I've purchased the extended warranty and I'm not afraid to use it.
Krewat in the V10 forum said he's heard of guys running ATF in their steering.(thanks krewat!!) Anybody else have any experience w/ this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!!
I would look at the ball joints or steering components for binding.raise it up safely an see if the the noise is still there when turning if it gets quieter something is binding
Some guys run mobil syn atf in them in really cold climates ,this helps with the whinning alittle.
You could have gotten a truck where someone adjusted the steering box to tight also.
