ive recently found a 4x4 van for sale its sitting on 33's and im lookin to get it on 38.5's also if its got a small block (engines bad... havn't looked to see what is yet) would i need to get a bigger dog house to fit a 460? so basically my questions are, what can i do to lift it, and whats involved with crammin a 460 in there?
i think the lifts for the vans are the same as a F150 of the same year... as for the motor- maybe find a 2wd that had a 460 in it from the factory at a bonyard and rob the house and other applicable parts...
The doghouse for all engines are the same size because they all have to fit between the seats and be removed.
Get a solid axle with all the steering components with leaf springs, weld a support (left to right) on the front of the frame to hold the spring hangers. Weld spring hangers to the frame for the rear of the springs. Notch the front engine craddle to clearance the pumpkin on compression, then weld steel to both sides of the engine craddle to strengthen it back up.
You will surely need a drop pitman arm.
I know a 460 will fit, but, I would go with a 351 because it will be much easier to work on. Especially plugs and such.
Usually the 4wd conversion vans use a solid axle up front anyway (dana 44's usually so were done with 60's, but that'd be like finding a needle in a haystack) As fara s the motor is concerned, and due to the weight of the van i would go with a 460, just find a 460 2wd van at the wreckers. or even a complete van and yank and rebuild the motor and thenyou'll need a tranny, unless the t-case is a divorced unit, otherwise you'll need to find a tranny and tc to swap in as well, unless it was a 351m/400 motor in the van.
