I found a 1977 4x4 Econoline van for sale today and I had some questions. Could you get these vans 4x4 from the factory, because it looks like it is all original. I don't know if it is a 150, 250, or a 350, it has 8 lug wheels and coil front suspension. It looked like it had a 460 in it, did they come with them, the lady that owns it doesn't know what motor it has, but from what I could tell it was a 460. This is the first factory looking 4x4 van that I have ever seen so are they very rare? They only want $500 for it and it is in pretty good shape so I am thinking about buying it, but I wanted to know some stuff about it first. Also, if it is a factory 460, were the 460s in 77 any good? I might just end up putting the motor in my truck. Thanks for the help.
I can't tell you anything about the engine other than lots of vans came with the 460.
But, no, Ford never produced a 4X4 van from the factory. Most of them come from aftermarket conversion companys. In the 70's and 80's, Pathfinder did a lot of them.
The 8 lug wheels suggest it's a 3/4 or 1 ton van.

There were no factory 4x4 full size vans. It is worth much more then $500, especially if the body is good. Just buy it. If you put it on E-Bay with a bad motor that ran and a bad tranny it would probably still fetch a $1000. Any year 460 is good, Advance Auto shows a 460 for that year van.
You need the VIN# to tell more. If you can still read the decal on the door jamb, that would tell a lot about the vehicle.
