I have a 95 PSD SuperCab LB 4x4 and I have read at many points on this site that deleting the cat and routing the exhaust out before the rear axle is good, but my question is if i do that do i still need an straight flow muffler or can i just dump it? also will it lower my EGT's?
(no gauges yet, got a 4mo old...)
yes bob you can do the exhaust as you said. thats how i did mine on the same truck as yours (check my gallery) take the cat and muffler out ( it will be loudand i get some soot haze on my tire and wheel) but it is a cheap and easy way to upgrade the exhaust. i got all my parts at the napa i deal with for work. pretty much just a 3.5 to 4 inch adapter to about 4 foot of 4 inch pipe to a 45 degree bend to a 4 to5 inch adapter then to about 1.5 foot of chrome 5 inch i had at the shop mitre cut to match the body line. then all welded up with 3 hangers.
Most people including myself have a 3" downpipe that steps up to 3.5" then to 4" at the end of the down pipe. If I were you and not looking to spend much money I would just step it up to four inch right after the down pipe. I have mine run just like tjbeggs straight pipe off downpipe to a forty five and then just straight out infront of the rear tire I just cut the pipe off flush with the body line no tip for me.
I just joined the forum. Can I do the same with a '97 F250 7.3l PSD HD 4x4? Everything on it is stock. I was just planning to add a 3" downpipe but now I'm wondering if I needed the entire exhaust? This is my first truck.
Call Dale Isley at Tymar Performance for best DP/Exhaust System. I recently got a 3" -3.5"-4" Ceramic coated DP from him, and it fit great. Very little firewall massage involved. Good price, great service, step by step instuctions.
