In my 1988 F-150 5.8L I have an C6. Just bought the truck. Now the truck is about 1400miles from where I live at my parents place. Parents are too old to check any codes (except I have the VIN)...
So does anybody know what is the filter for the C6 tranny? Any spare part numbers like for AC Delco?
I know this sounds a bit complicated...life is not always simple..
The filter is a screen inside the transmission pan, drop the pan, change the filter, reinstall the pan, add about 4 quarts of ATF and your'e done.
The transmission is non-electronic so there are no codes to be had.
Any auto parts store should have a filter kit. (gasket & filter)
Like FSC says any auto parts store will have a filter and pan gasket set for it. A C-6 is a C-6. Just give em the normal details for any part. No problems.
Why does the C6 only have a small screen instead of a real filter like other tranny's? I think the kit at Napa is only like 5 bucks and comes with the metal screen and gasket. Sounds like a waste unless you have problems or are tearing the trans apart anyway.
If a C6 needs the screen (filter) changed because its plugged the transmission needs to be overhauled. Washing the screen in solvent or thinner will suffice.
