XLT message center
<HR style="COLOR: #666666" SIZE=1>Any chance anyone knows if I can upgrade the xlt dash message center to have MPG (AFE - average fuel economy) readings, DTE - Distance to empty.. and all the other neato features that come on the lariat message center I think??
Is there a computer chip to add for this feature ?
Ok maybe It wont be so bad if I just need to add an overhead console... I thought it all read right in the message center of the dash.. I will call ford and ask them today and I'll let you know what they tell me..
Just got off the phone with my local ford dealer parts dept. They were not much help. He said I would have to bring it in to be checked if the upgrade is possible or not..
This option on the Lariat is either in the Overhead or in the dash (sun roof installed). I doubt you would want to swap it unless you could get a new dash from a wrecker for your exact truck and swap.
There are some after market plug devices that do similar as well......
I think the placement of the message center is more year dependant than anything else.
The message center in my '05 Lariat was in with the instrument cluster, and it did not have the moonroof option. I suspect that Ford started putting it there in order to cut down production costs & number of parts that they had to stock.
The year, in itself, would be an important factor in knowing what parts to get, and could play heavily on whether or not some of the other connectors are already in place or not.
I test drove a few different 05 fords before getting this one and I remeber all the info being in the dash.. I just dont remeber which model I was driving..
So it sounds like I will have to replace the dash cluster with a lariat or HD dash.. Guess I'll try calling around the wrecking yards for an 05 ford to start.. its probably an expensive upgrade through ford directly..
