Rust?

Is there a reason why a Ranger's frame and undercarriage rusts really fast? I live in New York, and I haven't seen a brand new Ranger with no rust since the dawn of time! I've even seen an '06 with some rust on the undercarriage! It's very odd. It's like the frame is made of surface rust or something. I might be going blind, so please don't mock me too hard.

Furthermore, is there a reason why trucks rust faster than cars, even if it wasn't used for work? It's something I've noticed.

You made me go outside and look at my undercarriage. So far so good here. No rust under my '03. Did notice a little on my exhaust though.

Um, you just answered your own question. You live in a state where they have a serious fixation on dousing the roads with salt in the winter.

And I think the frame is very visible on Rangers, moreso than some other vehichles, so you probably notice it more.

My '97 Ranger has lived outside in Massachusetts and Maine for all of it's life, and hasn't exactly been washed and waxed religiously...

The only place it has anything more than mild surface rust is the panel between the front fenders behind the grille.

I think it's held up remarkably well, considering how it's been treated.

Here in MEEECHIGAN, they taint the roads with salt, too. I religiously wash the underbody of my Ranger, especially during the winter and I still have underbody rust.

Living near Detroit, if the rock salt doesn't get you, the bullets will

soundwave: God knows I hear that one. I live just outside detroit so I hear you 100%. it's a miracle I'm still alive and have no major body rust on my 1993 Ranger. :P

David J: What about getting an undercoat done on it if you're worried about it?
