That same year I watched 3000 of my co-workers pack up their offices and walk out to their cars. They started drawing unemployment benefits. Crude oil was $10 per barrel and gasoline was below $1 per gallon. To see so many people lose their job made me want to puke but it didn't even make the news because those "big oil" people deserved it.

I remember that time also. They were capping stripper wells all over the state because it cost more to pump it than it was worth. Drilling for new wells stopped, putting a bunch of people out of work and many businesses closed their doors. Texas took a big income hit.

$2.84 here, and dropping. Though of course, the local ripoff station is still $2.96. I remember when we would drive 15 miles to Garland to pay $.97 instead of $.99. *sigh* back in the good old days...

The local Shell station raised prices twice today, once from $3.21 to $3.25 and now $3.29.

My Dad has a picture hanging up of his first new truck. A 66 F-250. In the background you can see a gas station sign pumping regular (probably leaded) for 17 cents/gallon. When I get a chance I'll go over there and scan it and post it.
