Howdy,
I was wondering how I know what kinda front axle I have on my '89 F-250 4x4? I need to buy new axle shafts and I need to know what axle I have. Thanks.
Dana 50: came standard with all extended cab f-250's that year, and was an option for regular cabs. Larger differential and u-joints, and the hub completely fills the wheel opening.
Dana 44HD: smaller (obviously) and doesn't fill the wheel opening.
Both axles may or may not have a large 44 or 50 cast into the bottom of the diff.
My truck has WARN hubs. Are these the hubs that came with it? The wheels are also different. Will a Dana 50 hub still completely fill the wheel opening? And I cant find a stamped "44" or "50". Will I see it from the front, underneath, or behind?
There is like 1 big cover in the front where the bolts are, it covers most of the shafts on both sides? I hope that helps a little.
