Rear Axle Lube
I plan to change the axle lube that is factory installed synthetic with new synthetic lube. Will I have to use a friction modifier with this change.

You only need friction modifier if you have a limited slip, and the fastest way to tell if you don't know is to go in the grass and stomp it and if you left 2 marks then you have a LS and need FM.

Assuming you don't want to tear up your grass or someone else's, the other way to check is to jack up one rear wheel and put the truck in neutral. If you can spin the raised wheel by hand, you don't have LS.

And the way to tell if you need LS additivie is if the diff chatters while in slow speed tight turns, especially reverse, like backing out of a parking space. It will feel like the tires are grabbing the wheel wells.
Some syn fluids say no additive needed some don't and read carefully... some say not for LS.
