I've added two leaves to each side of the rear suspension on my van and I would like to get heavier springs for the front. Does anyone know where to get them or can you use E250 springs? Thanks, Mark
I'm looking to replace a friends with heavier ones, 3/4 ton, they are listed in HD E-150's and E-250's, Autozone #FCS876V here in TN is $79.99 for Duralast.
Advanced auto had HD springs but I chose the standard rate. They were progressivly wound unlike the stock ones. I like the the way they handle my front end alignment with the new springs is spot on. Mine were around the $70 mark if I remember correct.
Go with heavy duty, these vans are heavy, don't sacrifice longevity for smoother ride.
This is an ancient thread but I thought I'd try it before starting a new one. I have an '03 E150 hightop conversion van that wanders down the road with imprecise steering, which makes highway driving almost terrifying at times. The rear leaf springs were shot and I recently replaced them with heavy duty leaf springs from ATS, and it handles maybe 10% better. The heavy duty rear springs have raised the rear of the van so that the back is significantly higher than the front after 4 months of 'settling time'. I want it to be more level and am thinking about replacing the front springs with heavy duty E150 springs from Moog (standard E150 replacement springs are also available from Moog). Maybe heavy duty springs will help with handling and I'm assuming they will be a good match for the heavy duty leaf springs on the back. My question is this: will heavy duty front springs make the ride extremely rough?

Look for Moog coils, and many vans coil os specific on which side the coil goes, not all do this are specific. I put E250 coils in a 96 E150, was available as a heavy duty option, sometimes it makes installing the top hold down clip tough to reinstall.

Stop chasing the notion stiffer or higher capacity leaf or coil springs will cure the "ill handling" so many newbies seem to adopt when they first acquire an E-Series. In your case you're almost double disadvantaged with the E-150 stock springs, adding the hightop conversion package just makes things worse.
If the stock springs need refreshed as Maples01 says look into using the same ratings as an E-250. Shocks AND stabilizer bars both front AND rear do a lot to slightly improve handling characteristics.
There are already quite a few threads dealing with "handling" and most have come to know the E-Series is NOT chassis that's extremely difficult to handle like a sports car. I stopped chasing this non-problem after quite a bit of spent money with minimal improvements. Hellwig sway bars, Bilstein shocks, urethane bushings, Michelin LTX tires---minimal return on investment.
I had to slam on my brakes and dodge an idiot speeding down the highway that attempted to cut between me and the vehicle that was passing me yesterday, almost hit us both, was all over the road, evidently you can drive reckless if you turn on hazard lights, my big van handled quite well, not once did it feel as if I'd lose control, but I've never had any loose steering or wandering issues with it, always been tight.
