Hangovers are most frequently caused by the sulfites and other toxic junk in the drinks, not by the alcohol itself and contrary to popular belief not by the dehydration either. If this were the case then you'd find a vast number of "athletes" with severe hangovers when they pop diuretics to make weight. That's why cheap wine causes the worst hangovers: high sulfite content. Better booze typically has fewer sulfites and therefore less hangover/headache potential. You've probably seen the "Chaser" supplements advertised for hangovers. They're not a remedy, they're a preventive formula and we all know an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. They DO work quite well provided you take them when you start drinking, not after you're hammered. They use a vegatable carbon along with calcium carbonate to help reduce the amount of sulfites absorbed into the blood stream. Lots of carbon and lots of alcohol can make for an interesting bathroom visit the following day but hey, at least your head won't hurt.
I very rarely get a hangover anymore but if I do it's typically from Mike's Lemonade or one of a number of oddball micro-brews. I don't have to drink much, 2 or 3 and the headache sets in. 10 or 12 and my head throbs a ridiculous amount. I take 800mg of Ibuprofen and in 30 minutes I'm good again. But this is the reason I try to avoid the few drinks that I've found to cause me a hangover. Hard alcohol never seems to give me any trouble. Well, at least as far as a hangover is concerned.
EDIT Sulfites/sulfates are included in a lot of other products including most baked goods. There's a decent % of the population who is allergic to it and a good portion of those people aren't even aware of it. They'll experience constant headaches, joint pain, etc and never know where it's coming from. Most of the time it's breads and pastas.

Menudo es bueno - I always wondered why it is traditionally made on sunday.
It is so your clyde doesn't feel like a bomb went off in it when you go back to work...
Hispanic women know these things, and take care of their men.
Picture my soon to be ex handing me a V8 on sunday night.... NOT gonna happen.
Bitch.
It figures Ivan has an alchemists compendium of ways to get over the common "Big as This Room" head complex. If he published a book about it, I bet it would be a top seller.
Used to do a full blown western omelet the next day. But JD still makes me feel like my gyros are uncalibrated...
(Buddy of mine gave me a quart for fixing his tiller yesterday)
Were you eating chilli that night Ivan? Making a prayer to the almighty porceline god will help, but it's not the cure...I use pickle juice, sounds disgusting but when you chug a jar of garlic pickle juice, the red in your eyes dissapear, the paste on the top of your mouth is dissolved, your head clears up almost instantly. I have told many a folk about this and they all came back and said how well it worked.
I've tried hair of the dog, but it doesn't help me any. Lots of water and lots of pulpy orange juice does the trick for me. Still does nothing for the Hershey squirts though.
Basically, stick to one type of drink for the whole night. Mixing beer and liquor is bad news. Made me puke for the first time in 6 or 7 years when I did that back in August. And try some unpasteurized beer next time. Or pasteurized, whatever it is. Labatt's Genuine Draft is the major brewery beer of my choice, because no matter how much of it I drink, I never get a hangover. Or look for a beer without preservatives, that goes along with my unpasteurized thinking.
Works for me.
I've actually got a stag coming up for my cousin on Saturday night, and I have to help my in-laws move on Sunday morning. So I'm sticking to LGD.
before I go to bed, I drink as much water as my stomach will allow me. Morning; BATHROOM, more water and maybe an advil, if needed... and carry-on as if you were normal.
I try to avoid anything with sulfites like Ivan mentioned, then make sure I drink plenty of water and take a multivitamin before I sack out after a morning, ahem, I mean night of heavy drinking. I generally don't get hangovers.
I haven't tried "Chaser" but have heard it works great. Ivan covered that pretty well but failed to mention it makes your yak look like your hurling up your inner organs
Well, I was always taught there are only two sure fire cures: never start, or never stop. You can guess which I prefer . A bottle of powerade/gatorade before you fall asleep, and a bottle of O.J. when you wake up, along with a good breakfast (I have the cheap equivilent to egg mcmuffins at my university) and then my day is good to go.
