Exclamation Help ASAP

So they screwed up my truck bad and they say its fine. Oh and I wasnt sure where to post this. Ok this is the problem and the truck 2001 GMC 6500 Tilt Bed with an air suspension under the rear. The bags were emptying over night and I took it to the local truck guy to fix as I didnt have time. He said that it needed a leveling valve and it would fix the problem. Well the bags arnt empty anymore they are so hard that the truck bounces every where and is very hard to control. I have found that dumping the bags and letting them fill will get me about 10 min's of a good ride after that to hard again and there is a constent air leak from some where on the truck. Oh and there is so little air pressure that the air horn doesnt work anymore. I have tryed to locate the leak and cant find and now this guy wont even look at it need a quick fix it almost killed me last night. Thanks For any INPUT

Not to be obtuse, but you have three choices that I see:
*take it back to the guy who did the work
*take it to someone else
*fix it yourself

I recently had some work done on my truck, that left it almost undriveable. The mechanic who did the work was closed, and the dealership couldn't fix it. I needed the truck. So, having no other choice, I did it myself.

I have tryed to fix it I am unable to determine where the leak is and the valves are not cheap so if I dont have to replace it I wont. I am leaving for New Jersey on Firday morning at 1Am so the truck must be up and running at that point in time. Thanks for the help guys guess I am left with the second option if I can get someone to look at it in the morning

Sounds like he screwed up the valves that send the air to different parts of the truck. I am GUESSING that you have a small air pump that feeds the bags and air horn etc and that your valves are electrically controlled.

Either you have a stuck pressure switch which is telling the pump to keep pumping air, or the valve to the air bags is stuck open and requiring air. Your air bags starting out OK and then getting hard, tells you the pump is still running, so why?

As a quick fix to get you there, you might disconnect the power to the pump. This assumes your bags will hold air. or assuming the levelling valve is electrically controlled, you might cut power to that. Of course make sure the air bags have enough air at the start to keep you happy and that you can connect the wires quickly if you need to.

It has been a long time since I have done a very simple air system on a car, but there is not a whole lot to them other than a pump, air hoses and some electric valves and maybe pressure sensors to send the air where you want it. Most leaks are in a hose that is rubbing somewhere or at the fitting. You can use water with dish soap to try to find the air leaks.

A decent RV or truck garage should be able to help you. You might even try out shops that work a lot with low riders, they do a lot of this kind of work.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

Thanks alot Jim I have the truck in the garage right now as they came to me to work on it and it turns out that the guy that worked on it put the wrong valve on it. He also broke the airline that gos to my horn and my comp is engine driven. There is no power for the system except for the dump valve.
