1970 F100 restoration
Hello everyone,
As some of you know my brother and I are restoring a 1970 Ford F100, this truck has been in the family since 1980. My dad bought it in California for $1,200 from a dealer, the truck had an electrical problem (kept killing the battery), it turns out to be that some wires were bunched up and all my dad had to do was separate them.
The truck has never broke down, engine is still running strong with about 142,000 miles, trany has not broken down either.
I'm sure that we will have a lot of question and this is the place to ask them, so if you guys don't mind, soon we'll start asking them.
We are going to set up a web page to post pictures of the project, for now there are some pics in this web page under "1970 FORD F100"

Is it a LWB or SWB? I have a 70 Ranger XLT LWB that I am restoring. I am currently going through the front suspension converting to disc via a 76 F100. These trucks had a bad reputaion for electrical problems, I found some of the ignition switch wires burnt in mine.

The wheel base is 131, I'm not really sure if thats a LWB or SWB. I'm not familiar with the details of Ford, yet. We have been lucky, truck has never broke down, no problems with the electrical system either. We plan on doing a complete overhaul on the frame, but we are going to keep it all original.

Hey Tony, good luck with the restoration. I've been working on my truck for several years now and will probably never finish it (there's always something to replace or tweak). Anyway, I just wanted to offer some encouragement and mention that patience is the most important factor when working on these projects. Also, having a boatload of money available isn't a bad idea either.

The easiest way to tell if you have a long wheel base or short wheel base is to look at the bed........ If it is 6 feet long,(Short) 8 foot bed (Long WB). I am getting ready to tear apart a 71 F-100, that only has 55,000 on it..... body is actually straight. Have a couple of minor spots that will require welding, but other than that corrosion free. I anticipate the total costs will be around $15-$18K when it is all said and done.... I know that sounds like alot of money, but you have to spend money to get a quality project completed.
I am still trying to locate a donor front end for a disk brake conversion....
If anyone knows of any good places to look in the Montgomery, AL area please let me know..... that is where I am located.

I believe the 131" wb is the long wheel base. If memory serves the Short wheel base truck is 113" Hope this helps.

Good luck on the truck they can answer almost all of your ?'s here. The first step to restoring the truck is putting it in a friendlier environment clear all the GM products out of your garage and devote your garage to FORD. Soon after owning this truck you'll realize a Ford is the only vehicle to own.

Hey guys, the project is moving along slowly but steady. The suspension is done, and now I'm in the proccess of putting the drive train back on, I didn't rebiult the engine or trany. Hopefully in a couple of weeks she will be running again. And as far as money right now I have spent about $2,000.00 nothing compared to whats next, THE BODY.
