Hello I just got done rebuilding a 410 for my 70 F-250 4x4 and had to buy a new radiator for it. But my truck has a 4spd so I don't need the cooler. I was wondering if anyone has hooked up thier power steering return line to the cooler in the radiator? Would it work? I thoutgh the temps might be to close or the radiator might be hotter than the power steering fluid which would make it pointless. The reason I ask is that the drive from where I work to where I live is all uphill and by the time I get home the pump is whining. Yes I have checked the fluid. Thanks for your help and input. comertrucks
Thanks. But I still need to know about the temp differeces. Will there be enough difference for it to have a coolng effecct on the power steering fluid? Thanks again for the help.
i have a 69 f-250 4x4 pickup that i put a 78-79 power steering box into. i have a radiator out of a truck that used to have an automatic. i ran the return line through the tranny cooler and haven't had any problems at all. this keeps the fluid at a more constant temp and everything works great.
Hey Mike, let us know how it all works out, that might be the answer to cold-slow-winter power steering problems.Any idea how much volume is in a standard V-8 radiator for tranny oil?

Thanks. I knew someone out there had thought of using it to cool the power steering fluid too. I was driving around tonight on some dirt roads and I think it got hot, the pump was whining like the fluid had air in it. I will try it as soon as i get my carb dailed in. Thanks again.
This is probably a real good idea. I know that the power steering fluid can get too hot. I have never seen any specs on how hot. My f-250 has the little cooler on the return line. Don't remember seeing this on cars.
Hi Mike, some of the full-size cars and station wagons had a little p.s. cooler mounted off the a.c. compressor. I adapted one in my Mach1, looks stock.
You guys are thinking in the right direction, but instead of using the rad trans cooler, it would be best to use a small trans cooler mounted in front of the radiator. This way, you are cooling the fluid down even more so than the temp it would reach in the rad.
