ok i have a 1975 f-250 camper specail with a 460/c6 and a holly carb and a b&m shift kit on the floor, ok i dont know much about cars but everything i have in this truck looks like it would be sweet in a drag car and go really fast, but everyone says my truck is made for pulling, how can i get my truck built for speed? i dont wont all this power to pull 4 tons, i wont speed. and ideas on converting this heavyduty work truck into a drag.
my truck has great stop light accelleration, i have a automatice and, yesterday i was showing my truck off to a friend and i came to a stop light and i shifted it down and when the light turned green i stepped on it and my tires squealed for about 10 feet and it wasn't wet out, so it can accelerate off the line really fast, but i havnt yet raced anybody at a stop light, and when a camero or a honda,ect... pulls next to me im itching to race them, specailly when they start reving up there engine because i know most of the time my engine is bigger but i dont know if its faster?
run taller gears in the rear diff. like 3.55's or thing. you have all the power you need so gear them up a little. and maybe some bigger tires in the back???
Mitch
i have huge tires in the back im not sure exactly what size, but when it rains the bed of my truck fills up with water because its so much higher than the front, should i drill a hole in the bed? will it make the rust spread faster? also i have a friend that pointed out that i have e4 tires so it means it can withstand a massive amount a pressure, which makes since because when i bought the truckk the guy said that the alloy 8 lug rims and tires cost more than the truck but in my opinon its a nice truck
Your giving up about 1200lbs to a muscle car, 1600 to a pony car, and about 2100-2500lbs to a tuner. You will need atleast 600hp to make it a race. Now you can go to a composite body for about $9000, or build the snot out of your motor for about $4500-6000 in order to beat up on those vehicles. The reason why you have the illusion the truck is fast, is becouse, when empty, the truck has a poor weight balance. There is a much higher percentage of weight on the front axle compared to the back axle, this in turn, allows for much easier tire spinning with a truck vs. a car. Weight transfer also plays into the equation too. Put 29 inch tall tires on the front, and 26 inch tall tires on the back, and you will find it harder to spin the tires becouse the truck will transfer the weight better.
yeah ive heard that from a few friends to put my engine into a ranger, but i live in a apartment, so doing a engine swap is out of the quistion, i have a 460 and i thought i was king of the road, but i quess not, if i wont speed i need a new car
a car or as stated another truck like a half ton. You can make a truck into a drag racer if you have the money and time and skill. I know of on 79 f150 460/c6 a buddy of mine had it would run mid 12's on a 150 shot. He also has a prosteet 79 project hes been working on for decades. rear is narrowed, tubs in the bed, cage, etc... still has yet to finish it though.
