96 Bronco

Why hello everyone! After a long hiatus (I am in Iraq) and a fit of depression over the fact I sold my '88 Bronco with the 351 and c6, my wife surprised me with a 96 Eddie Bauer Clone. I am going to use the search function so don't rail on me too hard, but I have limited internet time between guard duty and missions, so I am trying to gather info into one area. What can I expect from this vehicle? I am not used to MAF, electronic trannies, and push button 4x4. Hell I am not used to having power windows. Are there any major problems I should know about this year and model so I can go ahead and prepare to have them taken care of when I get home? I would have prefered the 351w, but I am just happy the Master....er the wife let me get a Bronco. Is there a noticable difference in the way the 5.0 and 5.8 feel and drive? Any immediate upgrades I should make? Sorry for all the questions. I am just so happy. In fact happy doesn't describe it, I think they will have to invent a new word to describe how I feel. What do you all think about happtastilicious? Or does that sound to much like something you catch on shore leave in Korea? Well thanks again!

Gurahl, happy hunting in Iraq. I don't know all the answers but I have heard it said on this site the the 96 is the best model made. If it has auto locking hubs then change them to manual. The electric transfer case is not a problem. I have heard that if the electric motor goes out it is easy to replace. And as for the 5.0... if it is tuned up and running solid I think you will be just as happy. Take care now and thanks for what you are doing for our country.

last year for bronco , has obd-II efi setup so its almost as touchy as Speed Density is. you can do basic upgrades like Exhaust, intake, throttle body. not sure what to worry about till you actually get in and drive it for awhile. there is a bunch more sensors associated with this motor then a typical MAF setup. Congrats on the BKO and stay alive over there man. Thanks for all you are doing

Thank you guys so much for the responses. Don't worry about me taking care I always do, but the thanks is appreciated. A lot of us over here start forgetting what we are fighting for, but hearing our families and civilians thank us brings it all into focus again. I can't wait to get home and drive her. She's white, so I was thinking about getting a vanity plate with the picture of a glass of Orange Juice on it. You guys think this is too much? I'm just kidding.

Gurahl, I have a 96 XLT with the 5.0 and I am here to tell ya, the 96 is a great truck! I had a 86 before this one, but my mean ol wife made me buy one with more creature comforts as my body began to complain about my old rig. The 96 with MAF and OBD II is much more upgrade friendly than the Speed Density rigs as long as you plan your changes and ensure they are compatible. You can check my website for some ideas or just post questions here. I have learned a lot from these guys, and have always been able to find the answers to my questions on this forum.
I am a career Fast Attack Submarine sailor (24 years and still serving) so keep your head down, stay safe, and if the bad guys get a little too frisky give us a call, we will send our little friend Mister Tomahawk to pay them a visit.
Good luck!
