Can I use a 1996 f250 van tranny in my 1991 f150? both the van and my truck are 351s I think the van is the 4r70w -not sure what mine is, it is overdrive. i have a chaace to buy the van trans for cheap 70k on it - looking to buy for a spare maybe?

96 E250 might have the E4OD. The F250/350 trucks had them in that year. E4OD has 20 bolts around the pan. AOD and 4R70W have 14 pan bolts. AOD is all manual control, 4R70W is electronic, as is the E4OD. Since both trucks have the same motor, the swap should work physically, but may not work electronically if your truck doesn't have the electrical stuff to control that later model trans. Does your F150 have electronic or manual OD?

 

In 1991, an automatic with OD behind a 351 would have been an E4OD. I believe the van also would be an E4OD, being as it's a 3/4 ton.

It should work, but count the bolts on the pan on each tranny like Glenn says. If they're the same, they will swap.

I hope your F-150 is 2wd.
