So I start my daily ritual with a protein shake. Every morning it's 10oz of milk and 2 scoops of protein powder. This morning I mix it up and start drinking it. Something's not right. It has a nasty little twang to it that makes my mouth start twitching. I look at the now almost empty jug of milk: Sell By April 23rd. Today is only the 24th so it's got to be okay. I continue drinking my shake and it still tates strange. So after I finish drinking I pop the cap off the milk and have a sniff. Blaaaaaah! I guess that extra day was just enough to send it over the edge, it was RANK! So here I sit with a bad taste in my mouth and a stomach making funny noises. This could get UGLY. Be sure to check your milk kids!
Sour milk is a pet peeve for me. I got the taste of sour milk once and it instantly became a habit to smell the milk before I even shut the fridge door.
I wouldn't wish sour milk on my worst enemy,as I have been a victim of it myself YUCK
I've noticed in our area for the past 6-9 months that Milk is not holding its freshness to the Best Before Day.
I bet I have returned at least 10 4 litre jugs that were sour that still had 4-6 days before the best before date stamped on the jug.
The Grocery store managers in my town comment that there has been an on-going problem with returned milk for about a year. They think it is either the dairy process or the dairies storage that is causing it.
i tasted some thick sour milk stuff in sweden once, but its SUPPOSE to be that way!! the family i was staying with served it to me on top of some cereal, i couldn't even get the first bite down politly, i spit that stuff out right there!
Yeah, milk lately has been going bad in our fridge. Especially so when it gets to be 1/3 or 1/4 full. It just gets more volitile and has more air to work with.
Well, as predicted I've got the Hershey squirts. 5 times in the bathroom this morning and it's only been a couple hours. I think I'm gonna invest in some baby wipes. Guess this is a lesson for the future.
lol oh its to late now even baby wipes are going to feel like 80 grit sand paper. But keep your chin up you will eventually get a callus. ( I hope not for your sake)
Would it be possible to do something like they do to keep wine? I have a thing that's a rubber stopper and comes with a hand pump to pull the air out of the bottle. Would doing something like that work for milk too?
I was babysitting my nephew (1 yr old) and discovered a bottle he'd hidden a few weeks before in 90 degree heat in july. Worst smelling stuff I've EVER SMELLED...
Normally sour milk (up to a day or two after the expiry date) wont bother me, but one day about 3-4 months ago when I was back home I poured a nice, tall cool glass, drank about half, took a breath, then realised something wasn't right. My mom was like "oh, I used the sour milk for baking". Oh well, I just finished it off, then grabbed a glass of good milk to wash down the taste.
