Hello
I've got a little 1989 ford ranger xlt long bed, i'm thinking about getting a boat and would like some input on how much weight it will handle. I'ts just the 4 cyl. 2.3. I dont want to get something to big, I know it will have to be a smaller boat, anyone out there towing a boat with a little ranger help me out with some input.
Many Thanks!
Carl
I don't have one, nor do I know without a doubt the towing limits. However, on small vehicles like that, the towing limit is sometimes 2000 lbs max, more often it is 1000-1500 lbs.
All I have for Ranger tow ratings is 1998. On a '98 with a 2.5L 4-cyl, 4.10 axle, reg-cab 2wd short-bed with the auto trans, the max tow rating is 2200 lbs. With the 3.73 axle ratio and manual trans, the max tow rating is 1580 lbs for reg-cab and 1380 for super-cab. I would imagine that the ratings for an older model with the smaller motor would be a little less.
I think that is the same setup that my son has in his pickup. According to him, you will need to limit it to a canoe. I had it for a couple of weeks and let him have it, because it was gutless, but I am used to driving with a FE.
Thanks all! I bought a boat toady a 16 ft. weighs 900 lbs boat and trailer plus motor, dont think the motor would weigh over 2 or 3 hundred lbs. so im hoping to be ok. Lil truck runs good so i think it will pull, just worried about it dragging me in lake upon launching (lol). If all fails guess i'll be renting a dock space, or talking wife into bigger truck!
