i am new to this forum as i am to diesel trucks so i will most likely be having many question. All help and input greatly appreciated.
so i have a stock 2006 f250 diesel 4x4. its my daily driver and only tow a boat during summer time mostly once a week or so. its not huge boat its a 20 foot boat somewhat heavy.
question is...i want to get some gauges on my pillar but i dont know what gauges i should have? any benefits of having them? i have seen 2 gauge kits and 3 gauge kits. some with boost and transmission and aslo exhaust temp. but i thought my cluster already shows turbo psi and transmision temp would i still need to add these?
Get a pod that is full length, the finished product looks so much better. You do have gauges in the cluster, but so many of them only point to certain ranges and don't give you full sweep. EGT is always a good one for diesels as it lets you monitor the temps around the turbo so you don't cook it. Really it's personal preference, you can add volts, amm, what ever you feel a need to watch.
I just put in a single gauge with a a-pillar pod. It is from glowshift.com, it is a 3in1 combo gauge. Mine is boost, trans. temp., and egt. They have a couple more to choose from also. I recommend them, its cool to change the colors too. I got mine for $169.99
so I am looking into the glow shift 3 gauge kit...but there is option between 30psi and 60psi boost gauge..which one its best to chose from? Also for exhaust temp there is a 1500 and a 2400 one. how hot does it really get?
Yeah I would say those are the most common gauge set-ups. Your egts are the most important, so you dont melt your turbo. If its stock you shouldn't have any problems. The 6.4's can go a little past 1300 degrees during a regen, but normal driving maybe 1100 if you get on it. Im not sure how high the boost gets in the 6.0s but i got the 60psi one because the 6.4's can go up to 40psi. Just trying to give you an idea, I dont know much about the 6.0's.
Its not hard at all to install them, the worst part is drilling and tapping for your egt probe and your boost probe. But its not really that hard it just takes time to do so you dont get any metal shavings in your intake or your turbo. I used a shop vac and a small magnet to get all the shavings out. Once you have got those done its really easy, just routing the wires to the pillar.
Temp is an important one if you are pulling as the factory gauge is a glorified dummy light and once it jumps you are alrady in dangerous territory. 30 PSI boost is all you will need for a 6.0 L.
Ops..i kinda of already ordered the 60psi gauge since glow shift recommended it..will that be an issue...also ordered egt at 1500 temp...and a transmission temp gauge
