Here's the problem I can not get the shifter off to replace the boot the manual
say's "remove shift lever retaining bolt by placeing locknut on the opposite end of bolt and tightening to loosen the bolt" mine only has one bolt tried it on both sides!! nothing any one done this before I need some pointers.
ok, this isn't so bad. the manual doesn't explain it very well. from what you've written, you've already got the 4 screws out holding the boot down and you're staring at the shift lever itself.
you're looking at a funny threaded rod, perpendicular to the shift lever with a nut on the passenger side. take the retaining nut off. take that nut and put it on the other side of the threaded rod and start cranking it on. in effect, this should pull the threaded rod towards the driver's side and free from the lever. eventually it'll pop out and the lever should be free to pull off. loosen the nut off the "driver's side" of the threaded rod. you'll need to put that back on the passerger side during reassembly.
during reassembly, be sure to put the flat side of the threaded rod towards the shifter otherwise you'll never get it back together right.
this is how its done on my 92 F150 with an M5OD trans. i do not believe it should be any different for your 95.
Andy, mine's got the same thing. rather than removing the 3 torx screws, turn the shifter boot inside out and you'll see the retainer bolt I was refering to in my previous post. remove the retainer bolt and lever and you're left with a nub at the top of the trans with the 3 torx screws.
WARNING TO ALL READERS...if you're going to be removing the 3 torx screws, be sure the shifter is in neutral before you remove the screws. otherwise its a royal PITA to get the shifter back in right.
