Engine Miss

Hope you guys can help. I have a 1988 Bll, 2.9 5 speed. Recently developed severe miss, esp during acceleration. Local mechanic serviced fuel system, and car ran perfectly for abut a week. Then same problem started again. Is especially noticed when first starting out with cold engine. If I drive a couple of miles and shut it off for a minute, it runs much smoother when starting out again, but not 100 percent. Also, miss is very noticeable while making right hand turns. Replaced air valve on side of manifold at mechanics suggestion, with no joy. Re-cleaned trottle body. No Vacuum leaks. FPR dry. Timing good. New cap, rotor, plugs, and plug wires. Problem must be fuel/air related as it did work for a while after service. Also have run several bottles of injector cleaner in gas. No smoke from exhaust. This one has me stumped. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks, Fergie

If your fuel pressure is correct, then it's not necessarily fuel system related... however, it could be that your fuel filter is clogging because of junk in the tank. It could also be a loose electrical connection on the fuel pump(s) and/or inertia switch. If your fuel pressure is steady regardless of RPMs and motion of the vehicle, then you may want to check to see if the distributor is worn out, check your timing chain & gears, check all of your ignition connections. The worst case scenario(s) would be either worn distributor / bad pickup / bad tfi module OR worn out timing components. I would try to eliminate the simple things first, though. Sounds like it might be junk in the tank is the first thing to check -- might want to drop the tank and flush it out. Hope this helps.

Thanks to kernel-panic for taking time to respond to my post. F.Y.I., Pulled a MAP sensor off a junker, and am back in business. Thanks again.
