I am new to the group and am the proud new owner of a 2000 southern, rust free, F250 4x4 super cab with 200k of adult driven meticulously maintained miles. I am thrilled with the truck and was wondering how to find a good mechanic. I have nosed around the local heavy truck diesel shop and found no interest in my 7.3L psd. No suggestions either.
Do I realy need a diesel specialist or is a good local mechanic OK?
Would a dealer be an option as they must have lots of experience with these engines?
Should anyone have suggestions for the Leesburg or winchester VA. area please let me know
Thanks for the help. dbittner

personally i wouldnt let anyone else touch my truck and especially not a dealer. i think dealerships are way overpriced and dont know too much about diesels but im sure some do. i would try to find a good diesel mechanic but most of the people on this site do their own wrenching and are very knowledgable and if you have a question im sure someone can help you out. congrats on your truck though. my truck also has 200,000 miles on it and runs great. where do you live? maybe someone is near you and knows a good mechanic
I would find a shop that works on diesels (big or small) and if they don't have a long history of PSD work, refer them to this site. While the end result of a gasser and a diesel are the same, move the beast, how they do it is different. I had a friend that did some upper work on his early model diesel truck. The friend that helped him thought it would be a good idea to spray the intake runners with a little diesel fuel to clean them up. After this is where I came into the picture! One blown motor later, I helped him get it back on the road.
i also would recommend wrenching on your truck. it saves you money, sometimes time, it is fun to do, and you can learn alot. i started wrenching on mine last year when i was 15. i knew nothing about them, but from frequenting this awesome site, i have become a Powerstroke Junkie (dont steal my term ) and with the combined knowledge of the members and all of the writeups, you can do anything with your truck and have confidence. sorry i couldn't help you with your question, but that is my politician way of answering it.
