I have heard people refer to a 3G Alternator upgrade. I assume this refers to 3rd generation. Have others heard of the same thing. What year of ford trucks would have this type of Alt? and what are the benifts?
Someone had a list on here of cars that it came in. I think several different ones did. Some bolt in, others need bracket modification. Some also need re-wiring.

I think the 1993 F series truck was the first year and I know they still had them in 95 as my 95 F150 has one. May be the 1993 was the only year truck that had a 3G with the old style bracket as that is the 3G I had to get to put one in an 88 E150.
The big benefit is that it will not burn your truck up like the 2G did. The 2G has a bad plug where the two 10Ga black with orange wires plug into the alternator.
The 3G has a stud instead of the plug and you have to put two crimp on connectors on the two 10Ga wires to the alternator. If you buy a 3G with more amps than stock then you will have to run larger wires and fuse link.
I can't take credit for this list. Copied & saved it from the electrical forums couple weeks ago.

The 3g is one of the best alts ever made. It was in super duties till 04. The parts hold out real well. I have one in my 99 that I converted to 200 amp..There is a small and big version if I remember correctly.
