I am demo driving a 06 F-250 C/C 6.0 4X4 and there is no insulation blanket on the underside of the hood? I remember My 03 Excursion having this blanket? The holes are in the hood for the push pins, but no blanket? Is there supposed to be a blanket and the employee at the line was on break or just no blanket?
One of many corners cut by Ford on the newer year trucks. Others include glove box lights, door reflector lights, wheel well liners... Many folks add this stuff back on.
I know I've read all about the "missing" things over the years, but my 2001 doesn't have the underhood insulation either. And that's BEFORE people were miffed about it being gone in '03 or so.
Is it a Lariat (and Excursion) thing? My XLT didn't come with one. It DID come with the underhood light (VERY USEFULL) and some of the other things that didn't in later years.
Are you all sure it isn't because of the trim level?
Not sure if it's related to Trim Level, krewat. Mine is in my sig - came with underhood blanket and light, came with front door reflector lights, came with glove box light, and all the fender wells have liners. Maybe I lucked out.
There's been discussion as to whether the hood insulation is important or not. Some like it for keeping the actual hood from getting as hot and damaging paint. Others say they'd prefer not to have it so the engine compartment won't be as warm. To each his own I guess.

My '00 Excursion XLT V10 had the insulation. My '05 Excursion LTD 6.0L did not. I added one, with the light.
I suspect your '01 was an omission at the factory.
