I am a smoker and use nothing but a Zippo lighter.Even if quit smoking I would probably still carry one.
I had one about ten yrs ago that had a skull with green glasses and a gangster looking hat on.Does any one know where to look in a archive type place or forum where I may be able to find one or a picture of one.
You don't have to be a smoker to carry a Zippo. I have never smoked and I still carry one every day. It is handy for camping. Sorry I have no idea where you would find one like that tho. Man should always carry a source of fire and a knife of some sort...
I no what ya mean, I ALWAYS have a lighter (actually it is a Eiffel tower torch lighter my buddies got for me when they went to Europe) and my knife. Especially on a farm, they always come in handy.
And sorry, I havent seen anything like that your talking about. Does Zippo have a website? maybe they would have a collection....
Well, robert, I was VERY bored, so I checked out the zippo website for ya, and there was nothing that was like you explained. Their were a few skulls, but none with sunglasses (cept a pink zippo with pink sunglasses). Check it out if you want, I suggest looking through the catalog (PDF format) Alot of nice lookin ones, especially the Ford ones
I've collected a few Zippo lighters along the way, most of them have never seen a flame. I also have one that I carry (along with a knife) everyday. No design on it, just silver metal that's been scratched up from years of sharing a pocket with my keys and pocket change. I might go weeks without using it (I tend to use wooden matches to light cigars and my pipe with for some reason), but it still fires when I do need it.
I agree with the line that man should always have a source of flame and a knife with him.
I've had numerous zippos over the last 10 years or so, and I've been noticing something about them that I'm not too thrilled about.
My first zippo I had for about 5 years, and it lit faithfully damn near 99% of the time. I would fill it about once a month, and never had to worry about it. It just worked.
I've had a few replacements since them (dropping them in the water, losing them, etc.), and it seems the new ones don't work or last nearly as well.
My newest two seem to leak, and don't last for more than say 5 days to a week maximum. Plus they take a lot longer to light, sometimes I have to strike it a dozen times for it to light, even after filling it less than a day ago.
Anyone else having troubles like this?
Oh! And who here has had the pleasure of the itchy, burny leg??????
(If you overfill it and stick it in your pocket, the fluid does wonders for the skin)

I"ve noticed the same thing, I sent my 2 favorite Zippos in for repair last year [hinge, the only weak spot ] and they sent both back with new "guts" and my old case.............just cannot get them to lite. I put some " old guts" from 2 older zippos in them and both work just fine! Maybe we should all go to their web-site and

FABMANDELUX.
I have noticed this as well. I also sent in an older one to have the hinge replaced and opted to use the new guts that was sent with it and my dad bought me a new one for my birthday and they do the same thing. They seem to be tempermental and light when they want to. One instant I will try for the life of me to strike and they just wont light, than ten minutes later first strike and will light up like nothing ever happened, and this is full as well. As far as the fluid goes, they will only leak after I fill them up cause I overfill them, after a couple uses, they are fine.
I carry too much crap in my pockets as it is, but I always keep a lighter or two in the truck. Sadly, I've found the latest Zippo (lost one or two) won't light more than a week or so after filling, so I carry a Bic disposable one in the pickup...
I don't know, my buddy brought me back one from the ship he was stationed on (it's cool...the ship's engraved in it and everything) and it works like a champ. Haven't had any problems with it yet other than replacing the flint.
I just went to the Zippo site...I didn't know that they made one for every Navy ship commissioned since WWII and every conflict as well. Pretty interesting. There's a lot of trivial facts and stories in there too, mostly relating to the military and guys who've had them for ages.
