Milage

I would like to hear from people that got improvement in thier MPG. Please, only mods that you know worked, not things that seemed to work. I had a 88' Bronco with a 302 and did alot to it. But the only thing that actually improved the MPG was an MSD box. That only went up about 1 and 1/2 MPG. Headers did nothing (Edilbrook shorty's) KnN filter did nothing. Now I have a 90' with a 351. Of course I put the MSD in. But I would like to improve it further. How about the MSD coil or a new chip.

Thanks

The exhaust upgrade with a flowmaster and the K&N gave me an additional 3 mpg. Still not in the Focus range (LOL) but getting 16 around town. 5.0L with auto and shift on the fly 4X4. I told my son that his wax job gave me an extra 1 mpg!

A 3" single exhuast or about 2 1/4" duals will give you better flow and less restriction and about 2 mpg, but will cost around $200 at a little muffle(exhaust shop).
Other than that, YOUR FOOT! I'm telling you if I got in your truck I could prolly get 1-4MPG better depending on how you drive. Accelerate SLOW, and I get 4 mpg more than my dad, and he drives normal. You can drive 65 if you want, just take your time getting up to it.
Maintain full air pressure in tires, change oil and filter regularly, and keep your air filter clean or buy a new one.

I did a few things within a month and i seem to get about 3mpg higher it could be one or more of the mods I can't say exacly witch one did what. I upgraded to a MSD coil, ford racing spark plug wires, K&N FIPK stage II, electric fan conversion(flex-a-lite) motorcraft plugs gapped to .55 and advanced my timing top 13.5 (sixlitlre ingniton setup from fsb.com) my gas milage is much better. I also noticed a big differnce in power.

Perhaps the gas you bought was better, perhaps the weather was warm, the moon and stars where aligned or you just needed a tune up.

Come on folks we are talking 1, 2 and 3mpg gains - nothing to be writing home about! "Hi mom! its me just wanted to tell you that bronco of mine yeah the one that costs 160bucks a week in gas to drive to work, well I hope your sitting down and get dad over to the phone as well.......I got a couple extra miles out it this week and had money left over for a Happy Meal!"

Next we will be breaking it down to feet to the gallon (FPG), whole crap guys I got an extra 3 feet out of a $200.00 tank of gas!

Perhaps I should head on over to the Doge Neon site and start talking about off roading it, "Dam this thing just isn't hooking up on the rocks, this gas milage is great but frig what good is that if I can't even making it over the curb! Thinking an SAS is in order and some 33" tires"

Again its a fat *** bronco, its a big *** brick going down the raod.

HMMMM....He ^^^ has a point. Broncos aren't about mileage! But it is interesting to see what performance mods have resulted in mileage increases. It may not be important to some people but to daily drivers it is. I think anything over 15 mpg is a major accomplishment.

I can agree with the performance aspect of it and as a side effect you get better gas mileage? Than great! So Performance first, looks secound and mileage 3rd.

Really though I'd be happy not to see another Mileage post, its right up there with - my rear window won't go down oh better yet my oil gauge isn't working right.

You want better gas milage....then put a block of wood behind your gas peddle.

I get about 12 to 13 on the highway doing 70. I would write home if I got 15. I have 3" free flowing exhaust (stock headers) K+N filter, Flexilite fan and the MSD. I'm sure the 38s and 488 gears arn't helping. I just got a job that I have to comute 800 miles a week. Its real good pay, But, you can see why I would like a little better MPG. I have to admit I like to put my foot in it. My wifes vette gets more than twice the millage and it has twice the power. She wont let me take it to work. Has anyone had good luck with aftermarket chips?

I agree my milage increace was just a positive side effect of performance upgrades. it wouldn't have been worth the money I spent to just a few extra MPGs

The answer is quite simple. Get a spec car for driving to work and use the Bronco for the fun stuff.
